Examinations and Tests at Teddington

Students are regularly assessed throughout their time at Teddington in order that teachers can plan their lessons to best effect.  Much of this takes place in an informal way in lessons, using careful questioning, students assessing their own strengths and helping their peers to do so, as well as regular feedback on homework and classwork.

From time to time we will also assess students more formally as a preparation for Key Stage 4 written Examinations.

Key Stage 3

Students will be given written tests from time to time during lessons for internal monitoring purposes.  Parents will be notified of these via the students’ diaries.

At the end of Key Stage 3 students will take internal tests.  These replace the old KS3 SATs tests, and a timetable will be sent home.

At the end of Key Stage 3 students may also be entered for external exams in, for example, Modern Foreign Languages.  Parents will be notified formally well in advance, and will receive a Statement of Entry from the Examamination Board.

Key Stage 4

Internal tests

Will take place in lessons and dates of these will be noted in the diary. At the end of year 10 some internal written exams will take place in lessons, and some in the Exam Hall. The results of these are used to help us predict performance for College Applications.  In year 11 ‘mock’ Examinations and Practicals are taken in December.

External Examinations

Modular Courses such as Mathematics and Science are examined at intervals during year 10 and 11 and the marks will count towards the final grades.  Coursework is also carried out in some subjects.  The dates of modular exams and coursework deadlines are listed on the school calendar and on the coursework deadlines sheet.  All Students will receive a Statement of Entry for any external test in addition to this.  Final Examinations also occur at the end of year 10 (RS and short course PE, for example), and at the end of year 11.

Timetables for blocks of exams

Such as End of Key Stage 3, Year 10 exams, Year 11 Mocks, and Year 11 External exams will be posted on the website under the Examination Timetable menu which can be found in the Student Information and Quickfinder sections.  Students will also receive a written copy to take home for reference.
