Learning Support
In the Learning Support Department we aim to provide for a wide variety of needs, ranging from Specific Learning Difficulties to general homework support. The department consists of Learning Support teachers and Teaching Assistants who work with students in class, in small groups or on a 1:1 basis.
In-class Support
Students with a Statement of Special Educational Needs have support from Teaching Assistants in some of their lessons and in some cases we are able to provide in-class support for students on SA+ or SA. Some students may be withdrawn from class for 1:1 support.
Literacy Groups
Literacy groups are offered to students in KS3 who require some extra input with reading and spelling to help them access the wider curriculum. These groups usually consist of up to six students working at a similar level and include a wide variety of activities aimed at improving literacy confidence. These activities may include play reading, literacy games and ICT programmes.
Flexible Learning
Flexible Learning is an option available to Year 10 and 11 students to enable them to receive help with homework, planning coursework, literacy and numeracy, amongst others.
ASDAN
ASDAN is another Key Stage 4 option. ASDAN provides the opportunity for students to gain credits in a wide variety of topic areas including Sport and Leisure, The Community and The World of Work. Many out of school trips and activities are on offer as an integral part of the course. ASDAN is an accreditation recognised and acknowledged by employers.
Mentoring
Mentoring provides a positive role model for children who require a little more positive engagement in school. Mentoring aims to remove boundaries to learning through informal teaching and conversations.
