PROGRESS TOWARDS OUR SIXTH FORM OPENING IN SEPTEMBER 2014
As I am sure you will expect, a considerable amount of work is being undertaken to ensure that we are fully prepared to receive our first sixth form intake in September 2014. I hope the following will help keep you updated with our progress.
I am pleased to report that construction of our Sixth Form Centre is moving on at a very rapid pace and Interserve, our contractors, are very confident that the building will be ready for handover to the school on or before the scheduled completion date of 4 August. The foundations have been laid, pillars are in place and the first floor ceiling is almost complete. You can feel the buzz of excitement amongst students and staff as the building rises out of the ground. It really is going to be a spectacular building. We are so confident that the building will be ready we are currently making plans to use it as the venue from which we will hand out this summers GCSE results on 21 August. Our sixth form is almost upon us!
I am also delighted to announce that as at the closing date of 22 November, 264 students have applied via the on-line system to join Teddington Sixth Form. Furthermore, applications continue to arrive by the day. All those who applied by the deadline have been interviewed and offer letters sent. It looks as though we will be full come September.
Behind the scenes there is lots of activity taking place here. Staff are busily attending training courses, preparing schemes of work, ordering resources and planning lessons. We are also currently recruiting the extra staff we need to ensure we deliver an outstanding education to our sixth formers. Furthermore, we will soon be in a position to publish our option blocks.
On the morning of Wednesday 22 January we held our A level Taster Day where over 180 of our Year 11 students were off timetable trying out a variety of the A level subjects we will be offering in September. Out of uniform and looking like real sixth formers, the event was a great success with staff and students alike having a really exciting and interesting time. Have a look at the video below which was sent out recently on Twitter.
I am extremely confident that all students who choose to remain at Teddington for their sixth form education in September 2014 will receive inspiring teaching, strong support and a wide range of enrichment activities, and I look forward to speaking with you further about this in the very near future. In the meantime, should you wish to contact me directly about any aspects of our sixth form deevlopments then please email me at email@example.com
