Due to the high participation rates of students involved in playing for school teams and attending after school clubs, the PE team have been offering an opportunity to boys and girls in Years 8, 9 and 10 to participate in a Sports Tour during Easter Break. Since our first tour to Barcelona in 2008 we have had several tours to Lake Garda, Italy in 2009, 2011,2012 and will be visiting again in 2014.
The 2014 European tour is currently full. If however you wish to join the waiting list please can you contact Mr Sheldrake.
On the back of our successful European tours we decided to look further a field, namely our link school in South Africa. For the first time in April 2013 we took a tour party of 50 students to Cape Town, South Africa. For some students it turned out to be a life changing experience and an opprotunity to see the real South Africa. They were involved in various programmes while they were there; coaching younger students, teaching older students how to play rounders, olive picking at the Geodgedacht Trust helping combat poverty and climate change. Obviously there was plenty of sports fixtures and the students visited all the sights that Cape Town has to offer.
Due to the overwelming success and support received for this tour we are looking at the possibility of establishing a tri-annual tour enabling all students, at some point during their time at Teddington, to travel to Makapula High School in Cape Town. Miss McGrandles is currently looking into a proposal for July 2015.
Further information on this will be released after October half term 2013.
