Theme for the Week: Community Cohesion

- What Are Community Values?

What is community cohesion?

Community cohesion is the attempt to build communities with four main characteristics:

  • a common vision and a sense of belonging;

  • the valuing of diversity;

  • similar life opportunities for all and;

  • strong and positive relationships being developed between people from different backgrounds and circumstances.

Why involve young people in the community ?

Young people often feel excluded from neighbourhood decision making, seeing other groups as making the decisions and holding the power. Young people have a right, as equal members of a community, to express views and interests, not only on specific young people's issues, but also on concerns that go beyond this. This helps build respect between young people and others.

This week we will look at the different communities that form part of Teddington School and the best ways to foster a sense of community cohesion and respect for others.
