World Environment Day
Monday 5th June 2006
Today is World
Environment Day - it is one of the principal ways through which the
United Nations encourages worldwide awareness of the environment.
The purpose of the day is to give a human face to environmental
issues; empower people to become active agents of sustainable and
equitable development; promote an understanding that communities are
pivotal to changing attitudes towards environmental issues; and
advocate partnership which will ensure all nations and peoples enjoy
a safer and more prosperous future.
However the
real aim of the Day is to encourage people to take responsibility
for their environment both globally and locally. Many visitors to
Teddington School are shocked by the litter that disfigures the
buildings, gardens, astroturf and outside areas.
Most students consider themselves non litter droppers and yet the
evidence suggests otherwise. We all have to take personal
responsibility for the litter we produce, disposing of it tidily in
the bins and recycling wherever possible.
Remember a cleaner school is up to you!
